CONNECTIONS

Part of our commitment to building a vibrant and vital future is empowering the Jewish identities of our young people by helping them connect with each other and the land of Israel. We do this primarily through our network of URJ camps, Yallah! Israel programs, and semester-long study abroad program through Heller High in partnership with Alexander Muss High School.

“Our young people are the lifeblood of our Movement, providing the energy and growth that will undoubtedly ensure a vibrant future.”
–Rabbi Rick Jacobs (President)

SPARKING JOY AND CONNECTION: URJ CAMPS FOSTER COMMUNITY AND COMPASSION

URJ camps seek to instill joy, compassion, and belonging in our campers while nurturing their desires to repair the world and connect with each other. In 2023, our 14 URJ camps welcomed nearly 10,000 campers and staff members, including almost 500 first-time campers, helping them forge crucial lifelong bonds and connections.

URJ Campers hold open a handmade Torah scroll with the words “Jacob and his family return to the land of his father, Isaac” and “Loggerhead sea turtles use the earth’s magnetic field to navigate back to their place of birth and lay eggs”

EMPOWERING THE NEXT GENERATION: IMMERSIVE ISRAEL EXPERIENCES

Participants in our Israel immersives, Heller High and Yallah! Israel, learn important lessons that are only attainable through lived experience. These immersives bring our core values to life as the next generation deepens their connections with Israel and the Jewish People.

In 2023, we introduced the Teen Israel Organizing Fellowship with 30 inaugural participants. Fellows receive a $15,000 Heller High scholarship and learn about key community organizing principles. When they return from their semester in Israel, fellows implement the principles they learned to facilitate a community organizing project centered on Israel.
